Horrible customer service
The company had a major security data breach. The company has now been purchased by a new owner. They are claiming to retain all the old staff and all the privacy policies.Know your rights and know who can access your DNA information.
Call taker was unable to answer my inquiry, so I escalated to Rick, who communicated by email. I was not prepared to transcribe a half-hour conversation and asked for a phone conversation.
They were unable or unwilling to speak on the phone. Customer service is an embarrassing mess.
23andMe takes it as seriously as privacy protection. No wonder it was fined millions of dollars.

Still waiting to get this problem taken care of for my mother gave no information its supposed to be a ancestries and DNA testing. She got nothing.
I know other people that did that test got more information. Then somebody you did they tell her about neighbors from 1950, but they dont tell her any better nationality and stuff.
Were all the same. The guy sit on the phone.

I have sent 20 requests to get my samples and dats destroyed
The company respond with the same sentence your request has been updated which legally means nothing. They make it impossible to contact them this is a SCAM
I want it in writing on email explicitly that they have destroyed my account and data.
Because I see in near future I will be taking legal action

Update: I was finally able to get a person to answer my questions. They were very helpful, and as I am not too savvy with computers, I will have my son try to do the download of our information. In the end, they were definitely willing to help!

I regret ever purchasing 23andMe. The entire process was frustrating from start to finish.
First, it took four weeks just to receive my resultsway longer than expected. Then, when I finally logged in, I realized that 90% of the features were locked behind a paywall, requiring an upgrade to their so-called premium service.
Heres the kicker: they advertise it as a monthly service fee, but in reality, they force you to pay for an entire year upfronta classic bait-and-switch tactic. Against my better judgment, I upgraded, only to find out that the premium service is absolutely worthless. Theres nothing new or insightful, just fluff thats not remotely worth the price.
When I tried to cancel and get a refund for the 11 months I wouldnt be using, I had to go through a painful customer service experience with someone who barely spoke English.
After struggling to communicate, I was finally told that they do NOT offer refundsever. So basically, 23andMe will happily take your money and give you nothing in return.
Save yourself the frustration and go with literally any other service, like AncestryDNA.
23andMe is a scam, their premium service is garbage, and their customer service is nonexistent. Avoid at all costs.

With the latest news, when trying to delete my account through customer service, I am unable to get ahold of anyone—a chat person, a real person, etc. It should be illegal to prohibit people from deleting their accounts and getting their data/DNA information off of their servers. Can't the government step in to protect us?
